Chair Yoga Videos: At Home Yoga Practice

There are so many ways to get in some exercise and activity in our day. What I love about chair yoga is that it is accessible for everyone. We may need to modify moves or positions- but that is what yoga is all about. It is honoring where we are today -right at this moment. It is about finding what it is we need. It is a journey- not perfection right now. It is a personal practice and not a competition. It is not just about the movement, it includes breathing and taking some time in your day to do something good for yourself. Keep reading for some information on some chair yoga videos that may be of interest to you.

Now, of course not everything will resonate with everyone- and that is okay. If you prefer to get your activity at home, or you just need to- I encourage you to take a look on YouTube for some chair yoga videos (or seated chair exercises)  that may be of interest to you. I always want to point out that it is important to be aware of any movements that may not be right for you.

If you are concerned about what may or may not be right for you, always speak with your healthcare provider before starting this or any exercise program. That being said, there are many chair yoga videos for seniors that include lots of spinal flexion and resisted twisting poses out there- and these are not recommended for safe osteoporosis exercise. Just a gentle reminder to make sure that you are doing what is best for you. Remember that every pose will look different on every body and that does not make it wrong. 2. Chair Yoga For The Brain

Chair yoga and chair exercises are full of movements that take coordination. When we use both sides of the body together, or when we move the opposite sides of the body together, we get some great stimulation for the brain. Take a look at the following chair yoga video that is full of movements that utilize both sides of the body, as well as movements that involve crossing the mid line. 3. Chair Yoga for Better Breathing

A big part of yoga is breathing. We have to do it anyway, so we may as well make it count. Our strength and posture has a big effect on how we breathe- and in turn, how we feel. We can certainly add in some deep breaths throughout the day to help us feel better. Better breathing helps all the systems in the body. This next sequence is about 23 minutes and focuses on poses and movements that help facilitate upright posture and the muscles involved in breathing. You can read more about it here in Breathing For Better Mobility.

4. Chair Yoga for Cardio

We may know that we need to get in some moderate intensity exercise that helps raise our heart rate a bit and that gets our breath moving. Of course, what is moderate for one person may be vigorous for another.  We can use our yoga tool of awareness to listen to our body and do what is right for us on any given day. We can get that great cardio from the chair. Take a look at this sequence focused on using dynamic movements and large muscles to get the body moving. This video is about 21 minutes. You can read more about this in Chair Yoga For Cardio.

5.Chair Yoga for the Core

Chair yoga is a great way to help strengthen the core. It is also a great way to help us to practice proper body mechanics and build healthy movement habits to protect the spine. The awareness of our movement that comes with yoga is a great place to start if we are building ourselves back up after an injury or illness. Take a look at this sequence for the core that is about 21 minutes. I recall that it was a bit challenging- so make sure to go at your own pace and listen to your body.
