1. Embrace Detoxifying Poses

We often associate spring with a period of renewal. This is a perfect opportunity to add in some asanas that incorporate detoxifying. Taking our yoga practice outside, if possible, can help us to connect with the season. We can get some much needed fresh air, hear the birds chirp, and feel the sun. Don’t discount small durations of movement- it does not have to be all or nothing. Take a moment to go outside and practice a few standing poses or stretches as you take in the energy of spring. Pranayama practices can always be adapted to the season of spring. Breathing practices can help us to balance our energy- and we can practice it anywhere and anytime. You can simply start by taking a few deep breaths and a moment to check in with yourself when you go outside. Or, you can incorporate a breath practice into your daily routine. Here are some ideas that you may be interested in that align with the season of spring.

If you do not already set an intention in your yoga practice, spring may serve as an opportunity to do so. Just as we may participate in a physical “spring cleaning”, we can use this as an opportunity to set fresh intentions. We can do this by simply stating something that we want to get out of your practice today- mental clarity, stress reduction, feel more present, calm the mind- to name a few. We can also add in some journaling before or after our yoga practice to help us clarify what we want to cultivate in the next few months.
