Don’t worry if that does not resonate with you right now. As I mentioned before, this Chair Yoga For Chakra Series is just about taking stock of the various aspects of our life and using the attributes to help us find more balance, calm, and joy in our lives. We started with the Root Chakra, our grounding Chakra. We can visualize that the Root and Crown Chakra are connected and by creating that stable base we can move forward to overall better alignment and balance in our lives.

The Sanskrit translation is Sahashara, which means “a thousand petals”. You may be familiar with the lotus flower. The lotus flower represents spirituality, enlightenment, beauty and is the symbol for the Crown Chakra. You can read more about the Lotus Flower here if you are interested.

The colors associated with the Crown Chakra are violet and white. It is focused on our brain and nervous system at the physical level and our inner wisdom at the spiritual level. When it is open, we are connected to all that is around us and we find value in all those things without judgment. When it is blocked, we may feel and act in a selfish manner or let our materialistic side come to the forefront. Or, we may have rigid thoughts or be disconnected to others, nature, or just our life purpose.

This is meant to be just an introduction, if you would like a deeper read, you can check out this book for beginners: Chakra Healing: A Beginner’s Guide To Self-Healing Techniques. Crown Chakra Healing: 7 Ways To Help Us Feel More Connected

1. Spending Time In Nature

The sun shining and glowing through trees with many green leaves.

You probably already know that spending time in nature is good for both the body and the brain. Just getting some fresh air does wonders for our energy levels sometimes. Spending time outdoors of course lends itself to being active just by the “nature” of the activities we do outside. But it also allows us to see our surroundings and realize that we are a part of something more than just our immediate environment. There are a number of ways that we can incorporate nature based activities into our routine and it can be easier than you think.

2. Volunteer

Volunteering is a wonderful way to connect with others, give back, gain a sense of belonging to something bigger than ourselves, express gratitude- and the list goes on. There are so many opportunities to volunteer that you may not even be aware of. If you think that you have physical limitations that may hinder you from participating in volunteering – you should know that there are so many different volunteer opportunities.

If you already have a passion for something- you can bet that there is a volunteer opportunity there. If you don’t, take a look at your skills, talents, or past professional or personal experiences and I am sure that you will find that you possess many things to offer. My grandmother volunteered with Meals on Wheals well into her 80’s! Take a look at these ideas and resources if you are interested in exploring:

3. Expand Your Mind-Svadhyaya

If you are not familiar with the Eight Limbs of Yoga, the Niyamas are the second limb and have to do with the standard by which we should practice self discipline. Svadhyaya is the fourth Niyama of Pantanjali’s Yoga Sutras and it has to do with self knowledge or self study.

Diving into our internal self is important to our daily life. But it is also really crucial in our yoga practice as we remember that yoga is not just about the pose and how it looks on the outside. Take a look at the following if you would like to read more about the 8 limbs of yoga or get some book recommendations:

Aside from studying and reading, how can we practice Svadhyaya in our everyday life? Well, take a moment to ask yourself why you are doing what you are doing: Take a step back, observe, and ask yourself some questions.

4. Silence

Because the Crown Chakra is really all about you- it prefers silence. Instead of repeating some mantras or affirmations- try simply exploring silence. Turn off any electronics, silence your phone, and just sit in silence for 10 minutes. This may be really difficult- or you may really enjoy it. Then, see how you feel. 5. Physical Movement/Exercise

Just getting the body moving with some moderate level cardio can help balance us both mentally and physically. Releasing some endorphins with physical exercises can be a simple way to just reset and help us refocus. Pick your favorite cardio exercise and get moving for a few minutes. 6. Visualization Meditation

Since the Crown Chakra is all about enlightenment and spiritual connection, visualization can be a great way to open and balance the Crown Chakra. Visualization can be a great and accessible technique to help us manifest an emotion, cultivate some energy, or simply just help us to relax and refocus.
